Stockholm is a place where you will find beautiful parks and gardens. The city is split over smaller islands, meaning waterfronts are always part of beautiful walks. Relax in nature and enjoy stunning views of the city in any one of the following great green spaces.

Djurgården

Djurgården is a green island, located close to the city center. The island is an idyllic spot for walking under the cover of the trees with nothing but the sound of birds and the wind rustling through the leaves for company. Explore the Djurgårdsbrunn canal or visit the museums and other attractions located in the area. For a glass of something warm or refreshing, stop by one of the numerous cafés and restaurants. Humlegården

A unexpected discovery near Stockholm’s nightclub scene in Stureplan is the Humlegården park. Originally a royal garden, Humlegården was opened to the public in 1869 and today it is one of Stockholm’s greenest spots. In the middle of the park is a statue of renowned botanist Carl Linnaeus, affectionately known as the Flower King. Purple sunset over Söder Mälarstrand and Långholmen I © Tommie Hansen/Flickr

Långholmen

Park

From construction until 1974, Långholmen was a prison fortress, situated on an island. Nowadays, it is a relaxing spot, perfect for morning runs or lazy picnics in the afternoon sunshine. There is a beach on the island, where locals enjoy sunbathing and swimming in the cool water. Stroll around in the evening and don’t miss the spectacular view of the old city center, Gamla Stan, from the east side of the island. Haga Royal Park is located just outside of Stockholm. The park is full of different garden buildings and a castle built at the beginning of the 19th century. Walk around and enjoy views of Koppartalten, designed in a style of Roman battle tent, Ekotemplet, designed as a summer dining room, and the Turkish Pavilion.

Observatorielunden

Park

Situated on a top of the hill, Observatorielunden is a charming and relaxing spot away from the buzz of city life. Stop by for a fika, a local concept of conviviality, and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea with fresh-baked waffle at Kafé Himlavalvet. The café is located in one of the observatory wings and is open between April and September.
